    Processamento de Sinais

    De forma simplista, o processamento de sinais pode ser entendido como o estudo de sinais e sistemas encontrados na natureza através de ferramentas matemáticas, com o objetivo de interpretar, controlar, modelar, extrair ou transformar a informação contida nos mesmos.
    Dentre os diversos temas abordados por essa área, tenho dirigido meus esforços para os seguintes: filtragem adaptativa, sistemas de auxílio à audição e processamento de sinais biomédicos.

    Aparelhos Auditivos

    A limitação da capacidade auditiva é um mal que acomete parcela significativa da população mundial. Sistemas de auxílio à audição possibilitam o aumento da qualidade de vida e uma maior inserção social do indivíduo com deficiência. Entretanto, diversas barreiras científicas e tecnológicas ainda precisam ser transpostas para que esses sistemas cumpram efetivamente o objetivo a que se propõe. Diversos são os tópicos de interesse no escopo da área de processamento de sinais, como por exemplo: redução de ruído acústico, cancelamento de realimentação, redução do efeito de oclusão, classificação de sons, diretividade adaptativa, processamento binaural. A ênfase de estudo é realizada no desenvolvimento e análise de técnicas de processamento de sinais, mas com implementação de sistemas reais para a avaliação dos resultados.

    Filtragem Adaptativa

    Filtros adaptativos são ferramentas extremamente interessantes para aplicações de estimação, controle e identificação em tempo real. Nosso objetivo tem sido estudar o comportamento de diversos algoritmos de forma a obter informações sobre seu desempenho em diversas aplicações, como por exemplo: cancelamento de interferências em sinais biomédicos (instrumentação biomédica), controle de ruído acústico, cancelamento de eco (sistemas de telecomunicações) e identificação de sistemas (sistemas de controle).
    Trabalhos relacionados ao tema de filtragem adaptativa podem ter dois tipos de ênfase. Trabalhos de cunho teórico: envolvem a modelagem matemática de filtros adaptativos com a finalidade de investigar seu comportamento nas diferentes aplicações. Trabalhos de aplicação: envolvem a implementação de sistemas reais de controle ou identificação em processadores digitais de sinais ou em microprocessadores de uso geral. Maior ênfase tem sido dada ao estudo de sistemas de baixo custo, com interesse pela indústria nacional.

    Processamento de Sinais Biomédicos

    Sistemas de aquisição e processamento de sinais biomédicos são uma realidade no mercado nacional. Embora as dificuldades de captação e condicionamento de sinais tenham sido superadas por diversas empresas, a necessidade de extração de informação para auxílio ao diagnóstico e pesquisa clínica é cada vez maior. Nosso objetivo é desenvolver procedimentos automáticos de análise de sinais biomédicos nas seguintes áreas: eletrocardiografia, eletroencefalografia, eletromiografia e potenciais evocados.

Abstract

Although a substantial amount of research has examined the constructs of warmth and competence, far less has examined how these constructs develop and what benefits may accrue when warmth and competence are cultivated. Yet there are positive consequences, both emotional and behavioral, that are likely to occur when brands hold perceptions of both. In this paper, we shed light on when and how warmth and competence are jointly promoted in brands, and why these reputations matter.
